The Hurdhee

Two rituals take place on the evening of the Hurdhee Ceremony:

The first is a Hawan performed by the Bride and her parents.
A hawan is a purifying ritual with a fire ceremony. It is an act of sacrifice and selfless contribution to the universe.

The second ritual is a Hurdhee (purification) ceremony. A turmeric paste is smeared on the bride's body. This is meant to act as a purifier and make her skin glow on the day of the wedding.

My Hurdhee and Hawan Ceremony was held at Port Shepstone Civic Center.

After the Hawan, Hurdhee was applied to my body by my guests. It was previously only women who applied the Hurdhee paste but in recent modern times, anyone can.

It is representative of blessings and well wishes towards the bride.

Each guest was given a home-grown succulent as a token of appreciation of sharing the special evening with me.

Once again

captured my special day and made sure to capture each and every significant aspect of the evening.
