20 March 2013

One of the most important pre-wedding ceremonies in Indian marriages is the ‘Mehendi ki raat’.
The application of henna is a mark of good omen.

Because of my love of travelling, I wanted to incorporate a piece of me into my Mendhi evening....

Mendhi represents the bond of matrimony and is therefore, considered a ‘shagun’. It signifies the love and affection between the couple and their families.

...What better way to start than with a 'Boarding Pass' invitation...

My morning started off with the application of the Mendhi followed by a photoshoot with Chantelle and Craig Botha of

The idea of my photo shoot was to capture the beauty of the body art but at the same time be in line with my personality. As a child I believed in fairies and always dreamed of being an Earth Fairy and that is exactly what I was for the day!

The Evening Festivities...

Once again my sister, together with her creative flair managed to give me a Travel-themed Mendhi evening that SO suited my Wanderlust personality.

The evening was filled with the usual abundance of tasty treats and unhealthy indulgence, family, friends, laughter and LOTS of photos!

My centerpieces were gorgeous and so were the little vintage-styled airmailed packages that each of my guests received as a token of gratitude for attending.

Each one included a little vanity bag with miniature bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and well as a little grooming pack perfect to take with on everyone's travels...
